I watched Vantage Point last night and found it pretty cool. At first the way the story is told, by showing the same event over and over from different perspectives, was monotonous. But after the second or third vantage point it became intensely interesting because of the interconnectedness of everyone involved.
And it got me thinking about preaching and church. (Don't worry I'm not going to go part way into a message and start it over again). How can we best connect the word of God to everything that is going on in the lives of those who come? What are they getting out of each message? And if each Sunday the sermon was the connecting point for so many vantage points what would the lead in and the result look like?
It's definitely something for me to consider as I prepare to preach. And it's also entering my thinking toward small group devlopment. To let the sermon be the common event/instruction that we grow from as a community. That might be because of my thinking and praying about small groups alot the past few months and how to best implement them here at The Church at Sendera Ranch.
